Privacy Policy
Who we are
nvlope is operated by Nvlope Technologies, Inc., a Delaware corporation ("nvlope," "we," "us"). You can reach us at info@nvlope.com or 631-2NVLOPE (631-268-5673). This policy covers nvlope.com, including sending and receiving gifts, group gifts, events and registries, thank-you cards, accounts and the waitlist. Our Terms of Service explain how the Service works.
What we collect
From senders. Your name as you want it on the card, your email address (for your receipt and updates about the gift), the recipient's name and email address or mobile number, the occasion, the amount, and the card you make: your message, handwriting, a photo or logo, a video or voice note. For a mailed card, a mailing address (yours to give, or the recipient's, which we collect from them). For a scheduled gift, the date.
From recipients and hosts. Your name and email address (and mobile number, if that's how the gift reached you), and for a mailed card your mailing address. To pay you, Stripe collects your bank details and whatever it needs to verify your identity; that information goes to Stripe, not to us — we only learn whether your account is ready to receive money.
From accounts. Your email address and, if you add one, your mobile number; your name; a logo you upload; a home address and country if you choose to add them; the people you save (their name, email or number, group and dates you want to remember).
Payments. When you pay, you enter your card or bank details on Stripe's secure page. nvlope never sees or stores card numbers or bank account numbers. Stripe tells us that a payment succeeded, failed or is clearing, and the last details needed for your receipt.
Automatically. Our hosting provider records basic technical details when you visit — IP address, browser type, pages viewed, time of visit — for security and to keep the site running. We don't use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers. We use a cookie only to keep you signed in to your account, and your browser's own storage to remember a gift you're in the middle of.
Waitlist. If you joined the waitlist, we keep your name, email address and whether you'd like to beta test.
How we use it
- To deliver cards and gifts: to email or text the recipient their link, to print and post a mailed card, to tell the sender when the card was opened and the gift claimed, and to send receipts.
- To let recipients and hosts receive money through Stripe.
- To run group gifts (so the organizer and contributors can see who gave), events and registries (so hosts can see their gifts and thank their guests), thank-you cards and keepsake albums.
- To sign you in (an emailed link or a texted code) and show you everything you've sent and received.
- To send reminders you set up yourself, and to answer your questions.
- To prevent fraud and abuse, protect the Service and comply with the law.
- To send occasional news about nvlope to waitlist members and account holders. Every such email has a one-click unsubscribe.
We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Text messages
We send text messages only when someone asks for them: a one-time message to a gift recipient whose mobile number the sender entered, a request for a mailing address for a printed card, a sign-in code you requested, and reminders you set up. Message and data rates may apply; reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Mobile numbers and text-messaging consent are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Our messaging provider (Twilio) processes numbers only to deliver our messages.
Who sees what
A card is shown to the person it's addressed to and to the person who sent it. In a group gift, contributors' names and notes appear on the card and on the organizer's page; contributors see the recipient's name and the running total. A host sees the names, messages and amounts of their guests' gifts. We mask email addresses and mobile numbers where they're shown on screen, and we never show a recipient's contact details to a sender or vice versa beyond what they gave us.
Who helps us
A few service providers process information on our behalf, under terms that limit them to working for us:
- Stripe processes payments, holds funds in transit, pays out to recipients and hosts, and verifies their identity.
- Netlify hosts the website and stores gift, card and account records, including uploaded photos, handwriting, video and voice notes.
- Resend delivers our emails; Twilio delivers our text messages.
- Google (Google Forms and Sheets) stores waitlist sign-ups, and Google Fonts serves the typefaces on this site.
- A printing partner, for mailed cards, receives the card and the mailing address and nothing else.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and property of nvlope, our users or others.
How long we keep it
Cards and gift records are kept so that senders and recipients can open them again and so keepsake albums work; you can ask us to delete a card you sent or received at any time, and we'll do so unless we need the record to complete a payment or meet a legal obligation. Payment records are kept as long as the law requires. Sign-in links and codes expire within minutes. Waitlist information is kept until you've created an account or ask us to delete it. If you unsubscribe, we keep only what's needed to make sure we don't contact you again.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, to close your account, or to stop emailing or texting you. Write to info@nvlope.com and we'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or Canada's PIPEDA; we honor those requests the same way.
If you're in Canada, our emails follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL): we send commercial messages only to people who asked for them, every message identifies us and includes an unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribes within 10 business days. Messages about a gift you sent or received are not commercial messages.
Where your information lives
nvlope is based in the United States, and the providers above store information on servers in the United States. If you use nvlope from Canada, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.
Children
You must be 18 to send or claim money through nvlope. nvlope.com is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Gift and card links carry a private key, sign-in links and codes work once, and access to records is limited to the people at nvlope who need it. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If the changes are significant, we'll email account holders and waitlist members.
